What Genesis is
Genesis is a community platform that connects people with local farmers, market vendors, and makers. We provide a space for discovery, reviews, and connection. We are operated by a small team based in New York state.
Genesis is not a marketplace. We do not process transactions, handle payments, or facilitate purchases. Any buying and selling happens directly between you and the farmer or maker.
Who can use Genesis
You must be at least 13 years old to use Genesis. By using the platform, you confirm that you meet this age requirement. If you are under 18, you should have a parent or guardian review these terms with you.
Your account and information
When you sign up, you agree to provide accurate information. Don't create fake profiles, impersonate someone else, or misrepresent what you grow or make. If you are a farmer or maker, your listing should honestly reflect your products and practices.
You are responsible for keeping your account information current. If something changes, update it or let us know.
Content you create
When you leave reviews, write descriptions, or submit any content to Genesis, you keep ownership of that content. However, you grant Genesis a license to display, distribute, and use that content as part of the platform.
Your content must be:
- Honest and based on your real experience
- Respectful toward other people on the platform
- Free of hate speech, threats, harassment, or discrimination
- Not spam, advertising, or promotional material for unrelated products
- Not infringing on anyone else's intellectual property
We reserve the right to remove content that violates these guidelines. If we remove your content, we will try to let you know why.
What we are not responsible for
Genesis connects you with local producers, but we do not grow, make, inspect, certify, or guarantee any products listed on the platform. Specifically:
- Food safety: We are not responsible for the safety, quality, freshness, or handling of any food products. All food safety responsibility lies with the producer and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Product claims: If a farmer says their eggs are pasture-raised or their soap is all-natural, that is their claim, not ours. We encourage honesty, but we cannot verify every listing.
- Transactions: Any purchase you make is between you and the seller. We are not a party to that transaction and have no liability for it.
- User content: Reviews and profiles are written by users. We do not verify the accuracy of every review or listing.
Platform availability
Genesis is provided "as is." We do our best to keep the platform running and reliable, but we cannot guarantee 100% uptime. We may need to take the platform down for maintenance, updates, or unforeseen issues. We will not be liable for any downtime or service interruptions.
Don't be a jerk
This is a community. Treat it like one. Don't abuse the platform, harass other users, game the review system, or do anything that undermines the trust Genesis is built on. We reserve the right to remove anyone who consistently acts in bad faith.
Specifically, don't:
- Post fake reviews (positive or negative)
- Create multiple accounts to manipulate rankings
- Scrape or harvest data from the platform
- Use the platform for anything illegal
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of Genesis
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Genesis and its operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the platform. This includes, but is not limited to, damages from food products, lost data, or service interruptions.
Our total liability to you for any claims arising from your use of Genesis shall not exceed the amount you paid us, which, since Genesis is free, is zero.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will do our best to notify you. Continued use of Genesis after changes are posted means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New York state. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of New York state.
