For Local Makers & Craftspeople
How do I get listed?
+
Head to genesislocal.org/app/add-maker and fill out the form. It takes about a minute and your profile goes live right away. You can also be added by a neighbor or a local Genesis ambassador. Either way, you get a magic link by email to edit your profile anytime.
Does it cost anything?
+
Genesis is free. For makers and for buyers. No listing fees, no commissions, no premium tiers. Ever. The goal is to help local food systems thrive, not to extract money from the people doing the work. We're pursuing grant funding and community support to keep it that way permanently.
Can I respond to reviews?
+
Yes! Anyone in the community can add a Community Note to any review. Notes let you add context, corrections, or a response. It's not a traditional reply button, but it means you (and your neighbors) can always set the record straight.
What if I get a bad review?
+
Honest feedback builds credibility. But if a review is fake or from someone who never actually bought from you, the community can flag it. Reviews with multiple flags get a warning label automatically. Community members can also add context notes. No gatekeepers. The community self-moderates.
Who runs Genesis?
+
Genesis started as a small project born out of frustration with how broken the food system is. We're building it in the open, starting small with local farmers markets, and growing through community ambassadors who believe local food deserves better than Yelp. The platform serves the community, not shareholders.
How is this different from Yelp or Google?
+
Yelp and Google are built for everything, which means they're built for nothing in particular. Genesis has one rule: the person selling it is the person who made it. Every maker is real, every review uses a real name, and there are no corporate listings or paid placements. Just your neighbors telling you what's good.
